[Personalized Counters]

[Infographic Download]

Reshiram is a dual-type Dragon/Fire Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Reshiram is weak to : Ground, Rock, Dragon Damage.

Generally speaking, the best counters for it are:
Dialga, Rayquaza, and Rhyperior.

Reshiram can be beaten by 2 players in optimal weather, with max friendship and perfect level 40 counters or by 4 unfriended players using level 20 counters from this guide. When caught, Reshiram will be between 2217 and 2307 CP without a weather boost. In Clear weather, Reshiram will be between 2771 and 2884 CP when caught.

Release History:

  • May 26th 2020 – June 16th 2020

Duo Info

Reshiram Duos are difficult. Assuming Level 40 Counters and Best Friends:

Crunch is by far the most desirable move to fight. Without any weather boost, Rayquaza and Salamance have a shot- and Shadow Salamence/Dragonite have a comfortable margin against every moveset except Draco Meteor. Against Overheat switch out RayRay and Salamence for Palkia instead. Stone Edge requires luck without weather boosts, and Draco Meteor is likely not even possible without one.

With weather boost however, you can use the following pokemon to duo every moveset:

⛅️Shadow Tyranitar🪁Shadow Salamence,🪁Shadow Dragonite,🪁Dialga, ☀️Excadrill, ⛅️Rhyperior,⛅️Terrakion.

Reshiram In the Meta

Raid Meta – Fire Fang+ Overheat

Reshiram becomes the best Fire-Type Pokemon as of this point, in both DPS and Bulk! Its typing offers a fantastic negation of water weakness, while doubling up its resistance to Grass.

Raid Meta – Dragon Breath+ Draco Meteor

Dragon-wise Reshiram is less uncontested, but joins Dragonite and Palkia in its average performance. This is a bit misleading however, like Dialga and Palkia, it has extremely useful typing that makes it excel circumstantially. It lacks BOTH a Fairy and Ice weakness, raising its effectiveness in situations where those types come into play.

Movesets

  • Stone Edge:

    • Rampardos becomes the best DPS choice here.
    • Ground-Types are hit for 🛡️ Resistance
  • Overheat:

    • Palkia and Reshiram become the best options due to double resistance
    • Rock-Types are hit for 🛡️ Resistance
    • Dragon-Types are hit for 🛡️ Resistance
  • Crunch:

    • Very few counters sport a resistance here, so it becomes dominated by the typical powerful Dragon Attackers. Easiest Moveset.
  • Draco Meteor:

    • Bulkier Pokemon take the spot, basically anything that can tank a Draco Meteor: Dialga, Rhyperior, Terrakian, Excadrill. This is the most threatening moveset as it one hit KOs most of the strongest counters.
    • Dragon-Types are hit for 💥 Weakness
  • Fast Moves

    • Fire Fang and Dragon Breath have comparable DPS, so which one benefits most depends on which types resist. Palkia notably does phenomenal vs all Fire Fang movesets (except Draco Meteor).

Top Raid Counters

Rayquaza

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Outrage

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Rayquaza was last available (with its shiny!) August 2019. It is a Legendary Pokemon only available in limited time events. Legendary Pokemon have 20k buddy walking distance and are generally a good place to use Rare Candies. Powering them up is also a challenge just because the candy is often limited to Raiding for them. Rayquaza is a phenomenal choice though, as it is currently the highest raw DPS Dragon-Type attacker, and among the best Flying-type attackers as well! It’s got crazy neutral DPS making it often a great choice even when it’s not hitting super effectively! Rayquaza was last a raid boss 8/31/2019 .It was last in Raids 261 days ago.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-Weak: Rock, Dragon
-With Level 35 Rayquaza you need 3 players.

Rampardos

Best Moveset: Smack Down / Rock Slide

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐☆☆☆

Rampardos is very difficult to acquire being fairly new and only having been featured briefly in one quest as Cranidos. Now that it’s been available in 7k Eggs and as a GBL reward, it’s availability has gone up. It’s the highest DPS Rock Type. Many Dragon-Type counters to Reshiram are weak to Dragon and Rock attacks, which let’s it rise to the #1 spot against the Fire Fang/ Stone Edge moveset!

-Best Matchup: Fire Fang / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-With Level 35 Rampardos you need 3 players.

Rhyperior

Best Moveset: Mud Slap / Rock Wrecker

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

Rhyperior takes the crown for best survivability! Being able to eat a Draco Meteor. Rock Wrecker however is Legacy, and probably not the best use for Elite TMs.  Rhyhorn currently can be found in nests.

-Best Matchup: Fire Fang / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-Resists: Rock, Fire
-With Level 35 Rhyperior you need 3 players.

Haxorus

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Dragon Claw

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐☆☆☆☆

Haxorus is very new right now and has not been featured in any events, but it’s a top tier Dragon-Type attacker. Despite appearances, it is really just mono-Dragon Type.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-Weak: Dragon
-With Level 35 Haxorus you need 3 players.

Dialga

Best Moveset: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

Dialga’s Steel typing gives it nice resistances usually so it comes up a lot as a hefty Steel or Dragon-Type. It’s a Dragon that isn’t even weak to Dragons, meaning it is helpful against most Dragon Bosses using Dragon-Type attacks. It is legendary though, so expensive to trade for and acquire candy for. It is an excellent attacker in Master League so powering one up is a versatile investment. In practice it often ends up the highest bulky Dragon-Type attacker over Rayquaza.

Here, it is notably not weak to any of Reshiram’s attacks.

Dialga was last a raid boss 3/27/2019 . It was last in Raids 419 days ago.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Rock
-Canceled: Fire, Dragon
-With Level 35 Dialga you need 3 players.

Salamence

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Outrage

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐☆☆☆

Salamence Community Day was April 2019, which is when it received Outrage. It’s not really the best at any of the things it can do, but it’s still a top tier Dragon with powerful off-type movesets as well. You can find Bagon in 10k eggs, but they do not nest. Rayquaza is strictly superior but  it does have a DPS advantage on Dragonite at least.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-Weak: Rock, Dragon
-With Level 35 Salamence you need 3 players.

Alternate Pokemon

Garchomp

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Outrage

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐☆☆☆☆

Garchomp while a great Dragon AND Ground-Type (and one with a resistance to Rock and triple resistance to Electric) is very difficult to acquire for now. No nests, no events, very rare, very new. Gible do hatch in 10k Eggs, but are exceedingly rare in the wild. It has a role in Master League if you needed more reason to power one up.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Rock, Fire
-Weak: Dragon
-With Level 35 Garchomp you need 3 players.

Terrakion

Best Moveset: Smack Down / Rock Slide

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Best Rock Type in terms of survivability and TDO. DPS is usually edged out by the glass cannon Rampardos. While it has less DPS, it’s bulk advantage helps it much like Rhyperior, leaving it one of the few pokemon that can stand up to Draco Meteor. Luckily, it’s out in raids right now!

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-Resists: Rock, Fire, Dark
-With Level 35 Terrakion you need 3 players.

Palkia

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Draco Meteor

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

It is a cut below Rayquaza in raw DPS usually, but its interesting Dragon/Water Typing leads to it often performing very well depending on the moveset. Its stats can make better use of it than Kingra. Candy will be pretty rough though as its only been released once so far. Palkia was last a raid boss 2/26/2019 .It was last in Raids 446 days ago.

Importantly, Its double resistance makes it the best option against Overheat Movesets. The only compitition it has for survivability there is Reshiram itself!

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor
-2xResists: Fire
-Weak: Dragon
-With Level 35 Palkia you need 3 players.

Dragonite

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Outrage

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dratini can be acquired from the “Jump Start” Special Research part 1 (the whole Questline grants Dratini Candy and essentially hands you a Dragonite if you complete all the steps), as well as available as a Shadow Pokemon. The “Catch a Dragon-type Pokemon” quest rewards one. Dratini was also available during community day in February 2018. You can likely find a friend to trade you a Dratini, if not a Dragonite, if you ask nicely!

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-Weak: Rock, Dragon
-With Level 35 Dragonite you need 3 players.

Groudon

Best Moveset: Dragon Tail / Earthquake

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Groudon was just available in the (time limited) Hoenn Special Research! So hopefully most of you got to complete it. White it is excellent, it relys on a Single Bar attack in Earthquake, which can make it liable to dying with wasted energy.

-Best Matchup: Fire Fang / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Rock
-With Level 35 Groudon you need 3 players.

Latios

Best Moveset: Dragon Breath / Dragon Claw

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire
-Weak: Dark, Dragon
-With Level 35 Latios you need 4 players.

Tyranitar

Best Moveset: Smack Down / Stone Edge

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐☆☆☆

Accessibility will be a bit tough if you are only starting now as Larvitars do not nest and are rare. They are also in 10k eggs. Tier 4 Tyranitar Raids were a staple for quite a while, however. Larvitar can be found in ‘Make 3 Excellent Throws in a Row’ Quests. The family was last in raid bosses during Water Festival in Sept 2019. Larvitar community day (the only time you could get Smack Down) was June 2018. It isn’t the highest raw DPS Dark-Type anymore, but it has a ton of bulk on top of near optimal DPS. Weavile and Honchkrow trade with it depending on the matchup.

-Best Matchup: Fire Fang / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Fire, Dark
-With Level 35 Tyranitar you need 3 players.

Landorus

  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Crunch
-Worst Matchup: Fire Fang / Draco Meteor
-Canceled: Rock
-With Level 35 Landorus you need 3 players.

Reshiram

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor
-2xResists: Fire
-Weak: Rock, Dragon
-With Level 35 Reshiram you need 3 players.

Excadrill

Best Moveset: Mud Slap / Drill Run

  • ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • 🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 📉 Consistency: ⭐☆☆☆☆
  • 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

Excadrill is a new Pokemon, but Drilbur are not rare, and it is boosted in sunny weather! It doesn’t look it, but Excadrill is a phenomental ground-Type attacker, and its Steel duel typing ussually help it more than it hurts.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Overheat
-2xResists: Rock
-Resists: Dragon
-Weak: Fire
-With Level 35 Excadrill you need 4 players.

-Best Matchup: Dragon Breath / Stone Edge
-Worst Matchup: Dragon Breath / Draco Meteor
-Resists: Rock, Fire
-With Level 35 Rhydon you need 4 players.
