Deoxys (Attack Form)
Deoxys is a wild Pokemon, best known for squaring off against Rayquaza in “Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys,” as well as being literally an alien. It is the DNA pokemon, which is reflected in a gimmick where it genetically morphs itself between 4 forms with different stats. Here we’re just covering the Attack Form.
In Pokemon Go Deoxys was in EX Raids near exactly a year ago (September 19th), with each form lasting roughly 3 months in sequence. The Attack Form has the most insane stats of all of them. With the flat out highest Attack Stat and raw DPS in the Entire Game right now- while rocking bulk comparable to a wet tissue paper. It has a bizarre place in the meta, bringing crazy raw Glass Cannon Damage to many raid battles -but only if it can tap dance dodge like crazy. Without dodging it is nearly useless, and is THE Pokemon most severely impacted by the Dodge Glitch being fixed.
Deoxys (Attack) is weak to BugGhost andDark Types. Generally speaking, the best counters for it are Giratina (Origin Form), Shadow Ball Mewtwo, and Tyranitar.
Deoxys Attack can be beaten by 1 players in optimal weather, with max friendship and perfect level 40 counters or by 2 unfriended players using level 20 counters from this guide. When caught, Deoxys Attack will be between 1372 and 1474 cp without a weather boost. In Windy weather, Deoxys Attack will be between 1716 and 1842 when caught.

Deoxys (Attack) in the Meta
Raid Attacker –Poison Jab/Dark Pulse
Deoxys (Attack) performance comes down to one thing, and one thing alone-how well can you dodge. You are working with the largest Attack Stat in the game right now, you don’t need to worry about not having stab bonus. Poison Jab Dark Pulse is it’s best moveset for hitting neutral damage shockingly. Psycho Boost is so awful that Dark Pulse actually is usually a better choice if you aren’t hitting for weakness. Deoxys having a Psychic-Typing allows it to excel in situations where a raid boss can counter the pokemon that typically resist it. All of this relies on if you can dodge however. There are many situations where Deoxys goes from the number 1 highest DPS option to not even making the list-all based on if you did or didn’t dodge.
Deoxys more than any other pokemon needs to be a lead, it is almost certainly not going to be able to survive a Charge Attack. It needs to get out the most raw damage it can while it is alive.Note that our listed rankings assume no dodging, severely punishing Deoxys.

Raid Attacker –Zen Headbutt/Psych Boost [et. all]
Deoxys (Attack) does however have a Psychic-Type set of moves as well. In situations where you dodge perfectly, you still usually don’t come out ahead of Mewtwo-but it’s close. Resistances however have much more proportional payoff for Deoxys, leading to top tier performance against Psychic and Fighting-Type attacks. If your dodge game is on point, of course. Note that our listed rankings assume no dodging, severely punishing Deoxys.

Raid Advice
- Dark Pulse (2 Bar) – Instead of a Normal move, the Attack form actually is able to do quite a lot of damage to Giratina with this thing. It’s the only Deoxys with a super effect attack to hit Giratina-and it’s the pokemon with the highest attack stat. Don’t get complacent with this one.
- Ghost-Type💥Weakness
- Zap Cannon (1 Bar)Not resisted by most of it’s counters-but it’s still resisted by Giratina-Origin form.
- Psycho Boost (2 Bar) An garbage move, but it does have STAB. Mostly just Gengar minds it. Dark-Types will absolutely eat it up.

Giratina Origin
- ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
This is the scariest Deoxys for Giratina, Dark Pulse actually manages to dethrone it’s spot as the universal choice.
Giratina-Origin was released April 2019. While it is legendary, it is the best Ghost-Type around and an Okay Dragon-Type, so a worthwhile investment!
With Level 35 Giratina Origin, you need 1 players.
Resists: Poison, Electric

Tyranitar
- ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Accessibility will be a bit tough if you are only starting now as Larvitars do not nest and are rare. Tier 4 Tyranitar Raids were a staple for quite a while, however. Larvitar can be found in ‘Make 3 Excellent Throws in a Row’ Quests, but you won’t be able to get the legacy move this way. The family was last in raid bosses during Water Festival in Sept 2019. Larvitar community day (the only time you could get Smack Down) was June 2018.
With Level 35 Tyranitar, you need 1 players.

Murkrow are very common (although less so than they used to be), but are only weather boosted in Windy and Foggy-which are generally rare. Honchkrow also requires a Sinnoh Stone to evolve, which can be acquired randomly from your first Trainer Battle each day. You can also get a Murkrow from the Special Research “A Troubling Situation” part 1/4.
With Level 35 Honchkrow, you need 1 players.

🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Weavile evolves from Sneasel, which is an uncommon Pokemon (that does still nest) and is an occasional 2-star raid boss. It requires a Sinnoh Stone to evolve, which can be acquired at random from your first daily trainer battle. Sneasel has been featured in Winter Time events and Dark Events. Weavile has been a reward from “Catch 5 Poochyena or Houndour” quests. Sneasel can also spawn from Glacial Lure Modules. It’s fantastic as both a Dark and Ice-type, so don’t let its frail appearance fool you. With Level 35 Weavile, you need 1 players.

Mewtwo [Legacy]

🌐 Accessibility: ⭐☆☆☆☆
Mewtwo is pretty inaccessible, as the useful form hasn’t been released recently. Trading for one is probably the most likely way you’d be able to get one of these, and you can use the candy you got from catching Armored Mewtwo to power it up. That said, if you weren’t lucky enough to get an Ex Raid back during its era Shadow Ball period-you can’t get it now. When Mewtwo was released from its EX shackles for a global event-that move was removed from it’s TM pool. This used to be more unfortunate, but there are quite a lot of alternative Ghost-Type options at this point so don’t sweat it too much.
With Level 35 Mewtwo, you need 1 players.

Requiring earning 7 candies walking your buddy, hatching 3 eggs, battling in 12 raids, being level 25, having the Gold Kanto Medal, Catching a Ditto, Evolving a Magikarp, among other trials. On the other hand, its something very accessible to anyone regardless of where you live and it’s likely many have acquired their Mew. Even so, after you get it you need to get the right moveset on it, which is a massive ordeal in itself and could take significantly more than your entire stockpile of TMs to get. Luxray evolves from Shinx, which is a raid exclusive Pokemon; and always acquired at level 20 (or 25 if caught during rain). This makes it quite the pain to evolve. Even if you pinap every Shinx, it will still take 17 raids just to get enough base candy to Evolve it. Shinx raids have become a staple however and are pretty reliably around, and are Tier 1 raids that anyone can do. Shinx as a Buddy finds a candy every 5km, which is better than legendary Pokemon but still not great.

Gengar [Legacy] Vs.
- ⚔️ Raw Damage: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
🛡️ Survival/Bulk: ⭐☆☆☆☆
📉 Consistency: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Gengar is uniquly bad against Attack Deoxys due to being able to get slaughtered with Fast Attacks alone.
Gengar isn’t too difficult to acquire with Gastlys nesting and being a common night spawn, as well as being featured in the recent Go Fest global spawns. The main issue comes with Legacy Move Shadow Claw, but Lick at least was made available relatively recently in Gengar Raid Day. Gengar is still great without the legacy move, but much less likely to be optimal.
With Level 35 Gengar, you need 2 players.

Closing Thoughts
Deoxys-Attack is a fascinatingly absurd pokemon, putting minmaxing to the absolute limits. It’s unique position leads it to have an extremely diverse web of key situations where it can be useful. But it’s always going to be a heavy amount of work, and it’s overall DPS probably has more to do with how long your phone takes to rejoin with a new team than anything else.
Still, if you’re someone who wants to take a challege, the damage potential has never been higher.
