Welcome to Week 1 of the 2019 Global Challenge Rewards!

 All 3 of the Beasts (Suicune, Entei, and Raikou) will be featured from September 2, 2019, at 1 p.m. to September 9, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT.

There is no reason to believe they will have increased shiny rates at this time. All 3 of them have already had there shiny forms revealed previously. If they are not given a boost, the shiny rate will be roughly 1/20 chance. If a shiny Legendary Pokemon  is encountered in a raid, it has a 100% catch chance (and thus you can use pinap berries for more candy). Note: rarely glitches occur making it possible to not catch the pokemon even under these circumstances.

This week will be themed on the region of Johto, and will also include:

– 2x Incubator Effectiveness.

– The release of Shiny Sentret and Gligar.

– Unown forms U, L, T, R, A hatching from 10k eggs.

– Other Johto pokemon in Raids.

 

Entei in the Meta

Raid Attacker – Fire Spin/Overheat (OR Flamethrower)

In terms of Fire-Type damage, Entei is sitting around #3, behind both Moltres (Fire Spin/Overheat) and community day Blaziken (Fire Spin/Blast Burn).

Prior to that, Entei was sitting as a tankier alternative to Moltres, with advantage in situations where Moltres’ Flying sub-typing harmed it. The most important one being Ice Pokemon with Ice Attacks.

Entei also has another major advantage, which is the moveset Flamethrower. While it has less raw power, being a 2 bar move allows it to be slightly more consistent and able to avoid wasting energy. That said, none of that means anything to Blast Burn Blaziken. Fighting Duel Typing doesn’t have any major downsides-and a couple upsides. Including an extra resistance to Bug and negating weakness to Rock.

Entei does have higher theoretical TDO than both of them, but he doesn’t have any clear niche where he is the #1 choice. That all said, the performance drop between him and them is rather marginal in most situations, and would only come up for more hardcore players.

Gym Combat – Iron Head/Flamethrower

Entei has favorable matchups against Metagross, Tangrowth, and Melmetal. If you choose to have Iron Head as your fast move, he also does well against Togekiss. Entei’s Fairy resistance is his main advantage here (something Blaziken lacks) but overall even here he lags between the two Fire Chickens. Still, he does manage to make it into Pokebattlers Top 25 Gym Attackers.

• Flamethrower- Multi-bar moveset hits frequently

• Iron Head- Hit’s Rock types super effectively, water types however are just as resistant as ever.  Note, while Ground is super effective against Steel, it does not resist Steel moves.

Weather Advice 

Clear Weather is the hardest, with the best counter winning with 2.2 players. Partly Cloudy Weather is the easiest, with the best counter winning with 1.7 players.

Rampardos is very difficult to acquire being fairly new and only having been featured briefly in one quest as Cranidos.

Kyogre is a phenomenal Water type, topping the charts in both Damage and Bulk. It is #1 in Rain of course, but also against Iron Head. This is due to Rock’s weakness to it and Water’s resistance to it!

Kyogre has only just left Raids recently, so there’s a good chance you snagged one. It is a legendary Pokemon though, and expensive to power up.

Kingler

Swampert

Accessibility will be a bit tough if you are only starting now as Larvitars do not nest and are rare.  Tier 4 Tyranitar Raids were a staple for quite awhile. Larvitar can be found in ‘Make 3 Excellent Throws in a Row’ Quests, but you won’t be able to get the legacy move this way. Family was last in raid bosses during Water Festival in Sept 2019 (Tyranitar Tier 4). Larvitar community day (Smack Down) was June 2018.

Gyarados

Magikarp can spawn from Glacial Lure Modules, and “Catch 10 Pokemon” Quests. It is also often a Tier 1 raid boss.  Gyarados has been available for years now, but has a hefty 400 candy cost to evolve. Magikarp spawns were last boosted got boosted during Water Festival 2019.

Rhyperior

A Sinnoh Evolution of Rhydon and Rhyhorn! Rhyhorns are a decently accessible Pokemon, and both has nests and has been featured in the earth day event in April 2019. They also get boosted in 2 very common weathers, so hopefully not too bad to get one even though it takes a lot of candy. It does require a Sinnoh stone however, which can be acquired at random from your first daily Trainer Battle.
With Level 35 Rhyperior, you need 3 players.

Palkia

Dragon-Typing doubles Palkia’s resistance to Fire.

Palkia was a raid Boss last during February 2019. It shows up here and there as a suped up version of Kingdra’s excellent type combination. It is a legendary pokemon however which can be rather expensive.
With Level 35 Palkia, you need 3 players.

Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is an occasional 3 star raid boss, and possible reward in the “Evolve a Pokemon Using an Item” and “complete five Raids” Quests. 10k Egg Hatch. 
With Level 35 Aerodactyl, you need 3 players.

Groudon

Groudon is a Legendary Pokemon and thus can only be gotten in time limited ways, It has had the opportunity to be be featured in Event Raids and Field Research Breakthroughs many times now however, and is boosted in a very common weather (Sunny). Groudon last was available June 2019.
With Level 35 Groudon, you need 3 players.

Omastar

Water and Rock duel typing gives Omastar a 2x resistance to Fire, but cancels out a weakness/resistance to Steel.

Legacy Omastar was one of the very first Legacy’s, and is extremely rare. Omanyte can be in “Win a Level 3 or Higher Raid” Quests, but wont have the legacy moveset when evolved. 
With Level 35 Omastar, you need 3 players.

Garchomp

Ground-Typing gives Garchomp nothing, but his Dragon-Typing grants a resistance to Fire.

Garchomp while a great Dragon-Type, and one with a resistance to Rock-is very difficult to acquire for now. No nests, no events, very rare, very new.
With Level 35 Garchomp, you need 3 players.

Floatzel

Buizel have been a recent mainstay of Tier 1 Raids, and are an uncommon wild spawn, but show up decently frequently in rain. Floatzel does notably better in rainy weather. Buizel got boosted spawns during Water Festival 2019 (around water sources).

Golem – Alola

Electric-Typing negates Alolan Golem’s weakness to Steel.

Alolan Geodudes can be found in the wild and in 7k eggs. To get a 7k egg. 7k Eggs are added at random from opening gifts when you have an open Egg Inventory Slot, and when hatched will be marked as the location where the Gift originated from. Alolan Geodudes were incredibly common during the 3rd Anniversary Pokemon Go Event. If you don’t have one yet, Alolan Geodudes spawn from Magnetic Lure Modules as well.
With Level 35 Golem – Alola, you need 3 players.

Blastoise

• 🌐 Accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

Squirtle was featured in one of the very first community days (with sunglasses even)! So unless you were playing back then, or during the end of the year community day revisit event, you won’t be able to get one with Hydro Cannon. Blastoise (non legacy) was a reward from “Water Festival: Hatch 5 Eggs.” quest in September 2019. The family was last in raids during Water Festival in Sept 2019 (Blastoise Tier 4). Squirtle Community Day was July 2018.
With Level 35 Blastoise, you need 3 players.

Vaporeon

Eevee is available from “Evolve a Pokemon” Quests, and is in general a very common Pokemon. It also nests, and you can even get a guaranteed shiny from the “Jump Start” Special Research that is currently running. Family was last in raid bosses during Water Festival in Sept 2019.
With Level 35 Vaporeon, you need 3 players.

Golem

Geodudes are not too much of a pain to acquire for most people, and exist in research rewards as well. Hunting down a nest or playing in partly cloudy will be enough for many to get Golem. It also gives you a Candy every 1km as your buddy! Geodude can be in “”Make 5 Nice Throws”” quests.

Salamence

Salamence Community Day was April 2019 (Exclusive Move: Outrage).
With Level 35 Salamence, you need 3 players.

Kabutops

Steel-Typing negates Empoleon’s resistance to Fire, but doubles it’s resistance to Steel.

Piplup are rare relative to other starters in it’s generation. Jump Start Special Research gives one at stage 4/6. Also got boosted spawns during Water Festival 2019 (around water sources).

Kingdra

Rhydon

Rhydon is of course, even easier to acquire than Rhyperior. If you are short on TMs and rolled lucky on your Rhydon, you might wanna consider leaving it as is.

Rayquaza

Rayquaza despite being beloved by fans has been very rarely available and re-released compared to most legendaries. Then there’s the candy cost to consider on top of that. Raayquaza was featured in Raids last Auguest 2019.

Golduck

Sharpedo

Carvana is a reward from “Water Festival: Defeat a Team GO Rocket Grunt”. Boosted Spawns of Carvana during Water Festival (Sept 2019). Family was last in raid bosses during Water Festival in Sept 2019.
With Level 35 Sharpedo, you need 4 players.

Regirock

Entei is back (and so is it’s shiny)! It’s both a very popular and powerful pokemon, making catching one more desirable than most. It still doesn’t quite top the Fire-Type charts, but it has carved out enough of a niche for itself to warrent picking some up!This Raid day will have something for everyone, and we’ll see if it proves to live up to the hype as Raikou did. Just be sure to come prepared with lots of Raid Passes!
