Heatran Raid Guide
Heatran– Lava Dome PokΓ©mon
Heatran is the only Fire/Steel type Pokemon, and is 2x weak to Ground-Type attacks. It used to be not that good an attacker, but very recently got access to Flamethrower as a great STAB attack jumping it up to one of the best Fire-Type attackers in the game! In addition, Ground-Type attacks have recently gotten a buff too! Making him easier to take down.
Heatran is weak to : Ground (x2), Fighting, Water Damage.
Generally speaking, the best counters for it are:
Groudon, Rhyperior, and Garchomp.
Heatran can be beaten by 2 players in optimal weather, with max friendship and perfect level 40 counters or by 4 unfriended players using level 20 counters from this guide. When caught, Heatran will be between 2058 and 2145 cp without a weather boost. In Clear weather, Heatran will be between 2573 and 2681 when caught.

Heatran In the Meta
Raid Meta – Fire Spin + Flamethrower
With the new move of Flamethrower, Heatran has a strong position in the Fire-Type meta. They are functionally tied with Entei in terms of being the best TDO, depending on how the Steel-Typing effects the resistances. They are incredibly durable against most of the types Fire hits super effectively. Their overall DPS mildly underperforms when compared to the other top Fire-Type options however.

Movesets
-
Stone Edge:
- Ground-Types are the MVP against Heatran, and the resistance here makes it definitely the easiest moveset. Excadrill becomes the best pokemon here due to Steel giving it extra resistance.
- Ground-Types are hit for π‘οΈ Resistance
- Fighting-Types are hit for π‘οΈ Resistance
-
Iron Head:
- Excadrill is also #1 here!Β The Rock/Ground types however are also hit for weakness here.Β Excadrill however becomes #1 again!
- Water-Types are hit for π‘οΈ Resistance
-
Fire Blast:
- Hardest moveset due to STAB, and its single bar being able to KO the tanks. Duel Typing benefits a lot of pokemon here, with Rock, Dragon and Water resisting allowing pokemon to perform better than Groudon. Excadrill hates this moveset though.
- Water-Types are hit for π‘οΈ Resistance

Miscelaneous Analysis
[under construction]
The recent (as of Dec 2019) buff to Earthquake and Mud Shot have really amped up the damage potenial of Ground-Types! Note that Groudon isn’t nescesarially the best pick depending on circumstances. Garchomp, Rhyperior, Golem and even Swampert do better against Fire movesets! Excadrill is interesting in that it is #1 against Steel and Rock, but then falls deep down against Fire moves. Groudon and Garchomp are by far the most consistant options.
Earth Power Flygon was released Dec 12, making it one of the most accessible options to most people. It’s not #1 best choice, but it’s still a fantastic option if you need counters.
A rare sight, Suicune with Hidden Power Ground actually has use here.
Heatran is a pretty easy duo as far as Legendaries are concerned, if you have weather boosted Groudons with the right movese,t you are mostly ready.
